If your leg muscles are fit, it’s easier to trek from one end of the mall to the other. When your arms are strong, you can lug jugs of milk into the house without breaking a sweat. And with joints that move smoothly, you can stretch to reach the cereal that’s on the top shelf — or bend to pick up a box of laundry detergent.
A fit body won’t get as winded when climbing stairs. It won’t ache as much after raking leaves. It will be ready to dance at weddings, play tag with the kids, and throw a stick for the dog. It can enjoy a Sunday bicycle ride or a walk around the town fair. It can take you wherever you want to go — whether it’s around the block or around the world.
Exercise can even help you sleep better when you’re done having fun: People who work out regularly fall asleep more quickly, enjoy deeper sleep, wake up less often during the night, and sleep more hours total per night.
